The rate at which Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer biodegrades in the soil and loses its effectiveness will depend on soil type, temperature and moisture content. Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer will need to be reapplied more often in hot, humid conditions.
- If you have weeds in your garden, remove the weeds by pulling
or hoeing them, or use an all-purpose weed killer of your choice.
Sprinkle Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer evenly over the soil surface at the rate of 1 oz. per 10 sq. ft., being sure to keep granules away from plant roots and foliage. It is critical to apply Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer at the correct rate and to uniformly spread it across the soil surface because weeds will grow if the Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer is under applied in an area.
- Apply Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer using the built-in applicator on the bottle lid or use a hand-operated spreader. If applying by hand, wear gloves.
- Water or lightly rake the Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer granules into the top 1 to 2 inches of the soil. Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer will not be effective if it is worked too deep into the soil. Sunlight will cause the Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer chemical to photodegrade and lose its strength. If you choose to water Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer in, the active ingredient will be washed off of the particles, creating a weed barrier in the soil. Any particles remaining on the surface will eventually disintegrate.
- While Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer will not harm your plants if it comes in contact with them for a short period of time, always wash or brush off stray granules from plant foliage to minimize damage or discoloration that could be caused by long term direct contact with the Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms chemical.
Please note that Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer can stain porous surfaces such as concrete, stone, vinyl, flooring, clothing and shoes if it is not swept off or if it becomes wet on these surfaces.

Applying Around Established Plants
For flowers, roses, herbs, ground covers, ornamental grasses, shrubs, trees and listed vegetables (see the section on vegetables below for detailed instructions) at least 2 to 3 inches tall sprinkle Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer evenly over the entire soil surface, at the rate of 1 oz. per 10 sq. ft. being sure to keep granules away from plant roots and foliage. Immediately water this product into soil surface. If watering-in is not convenient, lightly rake into soil surface. Always wash or brush off stray granules from plant foliage to avoid damage or discoloration.
Applying Around Flower Transplants
Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer may be used either before or after transplanting. When applying Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer after planting seedlings, keep it away from the seedling's direct root area and foliage. Do not apply until the seedling has been thoroughly watered and the soil has firmly settled around the plants. Be sure to wash or brush off any Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer granules that may have fallen on the foliage to prevent plant stress.
Applying Around Bulbs/Tubers/Corms/Rhizomes:
Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer can be applied at anytime around spring flowering bulbs. The best time to apply, however, is in late winter or early spring prior to bulb emergence. If applying after the green leaves have appeared, be careful not to get the material on the leaves or into the crown of the plant as discoloration or flower stunting could result.
Summer flowering bulbs planted in the spring: plant bulbs first, water in thoroughly, and then apply Preen Weed Preventer with Brilliant Blooms Fertilizer. |
