Weeds germinate in the spring, summer, and fall. Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer should
be used during each of these seasons. For optimum weed control and
plant feeding, apply Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer in the early spring. Reapply Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer 4 weeks after the first application. Subsequent applications
may be made in 8 week intervals throughout the growing season. The
rate at which Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer biodegrades in the soil and loses its
effectiveness will depend on temperature, soil type, and moisture
conditions of the soil. Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer will need to be reapplied more
often in hot, humid conditions.
|
- If you have weeds in your garden, remove the weeds by pulling
or hoeing them, or use an all-purpose weed killer of your choice.
Sprinkle
Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer evenly over the soil
surface at the rate of 1 oz. per 10 sq. ft., being sure to keep
granules away from plant roots and foliage. It is critical to
apply Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer at the correct
rate and to uniformly spread it across the soil surface because
weeds will grow if the Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer
granule is underapplied in an area.
- Apply Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer using the built-in applicator on the canister
or a hand-operated spreader. If applying by hand, wear gloves.
- Water or lightly rake the Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer
granules into the top 1 to 2 inches of the soil. Preen Garden
Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer will not be effective if it is
too deep in the soil. Sunlight will cause the Preen Garden Weed
Preventer Plus Fertilizer chemical to photodegrade and lose its
strength. If you choose to water Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus
Fertilizer in, the active ingredient will be below the soil surface
while the remaining particles may remain on the surface and will
eventually disintegrate.
- While Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer will not harm your plants if it comes in
contact with them for a short period of time, always wash or brush
off stray granules from plant foliage to minimize damage or discoloration
that could be caused by long term direct contact with the Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer chemical.
Please note that Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer can stain porous surfaces such
as concrete, stone, vinyl, flooring, clothing, and shoes if Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer is not swept off these surfaces or if Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer becomes
wet on these surfaces.

Transplanting Flower Seedlings:
Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer may be used either before or after transplanting.
When applying Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer after planting seedlings, keep Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer away from the seedling's direct root area and foliage.
Do not apply until the seedling has been thoroughly watered and
the soil has firmly settled around the plants. Be sure to wash or
brush off any Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer granules that may have fallen on the
foliage to prevent plant stress.
Applying Around Bulbs/Tubers/Corms/Rhizomes:
Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer can be applied at anytime around spring flowering
bulbs. The best time to apply, however, is in late winter or early
spring prior to bulb emergence. If applying after the green leaves
have appeared, be careful not to get the material on the leaves
or into the crown of the plant as discoloration or flower stunting
could result.
For summer flowering bulbs that are planted in the spring, plant
bulbs first, water in thoroughly, then apply Preen Garden Weed Preventer Plus Fertilizer.
