Long, smooth, narrowly oval leaves are displayed on a prominent central stem. Stiffly upright growth habit reaching 3 to 6 ft. Flowers are large and showy. Spreads by seed and by roots, often forming large colonies. Named for being one of the first plants to grow after a fire.
