Flowers: Pinkish purple, hooded and tubular, growing in circular whorls around the tops of stems.

Leaves: Ovate leaves with scalloped edges and dense hair, arranged opposite each other on the flower stalk

Life Cycle: Winter annual

A weed in the mint family with crinkly, heart-shaped leaves that have scalloped or round-toothed edges. Stems are square and grow up to 15 inches tall, but they are weak and may lie almost horizontal. Thrives in cool, moist shade. Seeds germinate in fall or early spring. Pinkish purple flowers appear from late March through April.
