Life Cycle: Perennial

South African native found in home landscapes, natural areas and hillsides along California’s coast. It is similar to, but larger and showier than, creeping woodsorrel with 3 heart-shaped leaflets per stem and yellow flowers. Plants develop from bulbs that sprout and grow in the fall. Small, whitish bulblets develop on the stem at the base of the rosette of leaves. It reproduces by forming bulbs underground or from runners and can rapidly overtake an open area.
