Our Story

Preen® was introduced in 1971 as a specialized offering under the Greenfield retail product line offered by Elanco, a division of Eli Lilly & Co. Originally formulated as a targeted garden solution, Preen addressed a long-standing challenge faced by home gardeners: preventing unwanted weeds before they ever take root.

In 1974, Lebanon Chemical Corporation acquired the Greenfield brand family from Eli Lilly & Co. (Elanco). Among the acquired assets was the relatively small, niche Preen label. Recognizing the potential of proactive weed prevention in the consumer marketplace, Lebanon Chemical Corporation invested heavily in scaling production, refining the formulation, and launching national educational campaigns. Through decades of continuous innovation and strategic expansion, now manufactured by Lebanon Seaboard Corporation, Preen has built its product offerings to include a variety of products that cater to the needs of their consumers. Preen has transformed from an obscure garden secret into Lebanon Seaboard Corporation’s largest and most commercially successful consumer brand, setting the industry benchmark for garden weed prevention.
