A low, spreading plant with long stems that have small, oval leaves in rows along the stem. Similar to spotted spurge, except that prostrate spurge leaves lack the dark splotch and are more rounded oval to egg-shaped. Inconspicuous flowers are tiny and white to pinkish and appear in round clusters at the leaf axils along the stem. Flowers and reseeds rapidly, within a few weeks of germination. It's important to remove plants when young to reduce seed production. Plants are shallow-rooted and come out easily via hand-pulling, hoeingIt is native to south-central U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America and can be found in disturbed areas throughout the U.S. including lawns and gardens, roadsides, and sidewalk cracks, preferring dry, sandy or graveley soils.
