Preen Video Center

Mulch is a first line of defense against weeds. Together, mulch and Preen provide a one-two punch against weeds. Learn how to combine mulch and Preen to stop weeds when they're seeds.

Think of some of the more attractive flower gardens that you have admired. It’s very likely that the gardener included a nice layer of tidy looking mulch.

Hi, I’m Chris Holiday. In this video we’re going to show you how to use mulch as an effective weed preventing tool in the garden. We’ll show you how to combine mulch with Preen weed preventer products to create a powerful weed shield.

We’ll also look at Preen® Mulch Plus®, which comes with strong weed preventers already mixed in, ready to go. It’s the most effective weed preventing mulch that you can buy. It’s one more example of how Preen Works, So You Don’t Have To.®

Mulch is a protective material placed over the soil. It helps retain moisture, keeps soil and plant roots cooler, can add organic matter and also deters some kinds of weeds, while making the garden bed look tidy.

There are many kinds of mulch to choose from. Some of the best are hardwood bark, cocoa hulls, pine straw and shredded wood chip mulch.

There are several Preen products that can be used in combination with mulch. Preen® Garden Weed Preventer, Preen® Weed Preventer for Southern Gardens, Preen® Garden Weed Preventer Plus Plant Food, and of course, a Preen mulch, Preen® Mulch Plus®, that already includes powerful weed preventers mixed in.

Mulching is a recommended step in the Preen Routine. A set of simple steps that can help you keep your garden weed free all season long. There are other videos on Preen’s website and on YouTube that can give you more details.

While it’s optimal to begin your Preen routine in early spring, it’s actually never too late to start. Different weeds sprout at different times. Some weeds are literally seed factories. A single chickweed produces 15,000 seeds. Lambsquarter may sound cute, but each plant creates 70,000 seeds.

Weeds are tough customers, but so is Preen. The sooner you get started, the more weeds you prevent. Preen weed preventer products will work very well with almost any type of mulch. It’s very easy.

First pull out any weeds that have already cropped up in the garden, so you have a clean bed. Then apply mulch to a thickness of approximately two inches. Add Preen® Garden Weed Preventer or Preen® Weed Preventer for Southern Gardens on top of your mulch.

For a highly effective weed preventing mulch that’s also very easy to use, there’s Preen® Mulch Plus®. It has powerful weed preventers already mixed in.

Preen® Mulch Plus® is made from all natural forest products and hold their color all year long. Preen® Mulch Plus® is the most effective weed preventing mulch on the market, preventing more than 100 grassy and broadleaf weeds for up to six months.

And that’s it - the Preen way to a wonderful and weed free flower garden for you to enjoy. As with any gardening product, it’s important to read the product label and follow instructions. You can also find Preen labels and lots more easy-care gardening information at
